Kate Sessions, (1857-1940) is credited with introducing the Jacaranda tree to the San Diego area. Miss Sessions was a school teacher, botanist, horticulturist, and landscape architect. She founded the Mission Hills Nursery in 1910.

The myrtle family includes plants such as the bay rum tree, guava, all spice, eucalyptus and myrtle.  All are woody, with evergreen leaves and produce essential oils.  The Eucalypts are particularly associated with Australasia.

The Naked Coral Tree is native to eastern Mexico, at elevations of 2,500 to 8,500 feet. 

 Melaleuca nesophila, showy honey-myrtle, mindiyed or pink melaleuca

Melaleuca is a plant in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae and is endemic to an area near Albany in Western Australia. Hardy and adaptable, with a dense crown of leaves and prolific heads of pink or purple flowers in late spring and summer, it is one of the most commonly cultivated melaleuca shrubs.

Bidwill's Hybrid Coral Bean Tree | Erythrina x bidwillii

Coral tree is a hybrid between Erythina crista-gali and Erythrina herbcacea. Long wands, to 4 feet long, of bright red flowers emerge from the branch tips through late spring and summer. 

Who was John Carne Bidwell? A New Zealand botanist and author. He wrote Rambles in New Zealand in 1839.

Australian, William Macarthur, at his ranch, Camden Park crossbred Erythrina crista-galli, with Erythrina herbacea to produce the Bidwill's Hybrid Coral Bean Tree.

Erythrina is a member of the Fabaceae or Leguminosae Family commonly known as the legume, pea, or bean family.
