With highly glossy green leaves, the Taiwanese Parasol tree or Wheel Tree has a tiered form and tolerates USDA temperatures in zone 7-10.  The specimen in the photograph is located at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. This caught my eye. I had never seen the woody star-shaped seed pods. The leaves are glossy, broad, and evergreen. The flowers bloom in the spring and are chartreuse in color.
