Mushrooms and Toadstools

GARDENING | PLANT ID

The study of mushroom or fungi is mycology. Mushrooms are not in the plant kingdom but are considered of the fungi kingdom. Fungus interacts with plants in various ways, sometimes beneficial and sometimes harmful.

I walk around my yard pulling any mushrooms out of the soil, out of concern that my dogs might interact with them. Some mushrooms can be highly toxic. The best time to look for mushrooms is after a rain. I look for fire ant hills because those appear after a rain, also.

Below are mushroom that appear in my fern pots after a rain. They have a very bright yellow color and an ovate shape.

I have other mushrooms, some with bright red caps. I have a photograph of the under surface of the red capped mushroom.

Amanita muscaria, the most easily recognised "toadstool",
