Thunbergia

Thunbergia's are vines and shrubs in the Acanthacea family. They are distributed mainly in Africa, China, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Indochina and Myanmar and widely naturalised elsewhere. The generic name honours the Swedish naturalist Carl Peter Thunberg (1743-1828).

The ITIS, Integrated Taxanomic Information System recognizes the following species as direct descendants of the genus. Thunbergia Retz.


Thunbergia alata  blackeyed Susan vine
Thunbergia erecta (Benth.) T. Anderson – bush clockvine
Thunbergia fragrans – whitelady
Thunbergia grandiflora - Bengal trumpet
Thunbergia laurifolia – laurel clockvine
