The vernacular names are birthwort, pipevine, or Dutchman's pipe. It falls in the clad Magnoliids.

Aristolochia reticulata
The Texas Dutchman's pipe can be found in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. It is an unusual wild herb and hosts the eastern pipe-vine swallowtail caterpillar. The plant likes moist, sandy soil and has a long, thick root. It flowers in late spring to early summer. Linnaeus published it's origins as Vera Cruz, (the port city Veracruz, Mexico). The pipe-vine swallowtail butterfly caterpillar uses it as a food source. It has a small interesting flower in the shape of a swan.
