This iris is favored by florists because it is one of the first blooming irises in the spring. It is grown from a bulb, unlike the tall bearded irises that grow from a rhizome.

Garden Whimsy

Dutch Iris (Iris hollandica), gold and amber with purple and blue

Grow in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates some part afternoon shade.  

The sparkling gold Dutch iris are found in clusters  throughout the garden. The flower shapes are reminiscent of butterflies, adding whimsy to the spring theatrics.
