Bidwill's Hybrid Coral Bean Tree, Erythrina x bidwillii

Coral tree is a hybrid between Erythina crista-gali and Erythrina herbcacea. Long wands, to 4 feet long, of bright red flowers emerge from the branch tips through late spring and summer.

Who was John Carne Bidwell? A New Zealand botanist and author. He wrote Rambles in New Zealand in 1839.

Australian, William Macarthur, at his ranch, Camden Park crossbred Erythrina crista-galli, with Erythrina herbacea to produce the Bidwill's Hybrid Coral Bean Tree.

Erythrina is a member of the Fabaceae or Leguminosae family commonly known as the legume or pea family
