With highly glossy green leaves, the Taiwanese Parasol tree or Wheel Tree has a tiered form and tolerates USDA temperatures in zone 7-10.

This caught my eye. The woody star-shaped seed pods and the glossy, broad, and evergreen leaves are unusual A botanical examination reveals a secondary xylem without vessel elements, which is quite rare in angiosperms. As the vessel-free wood suggests primitiveness, the two species in this family have attracted much taxonomic attention. The flowers bloom in the spring and are chartreuse in color.
